Indian transport minister wants heavy industry to switch to ethanol

June 7, 2022 |

In India, the Business Standard newspaper reports the transport minister wants heavy industry such as construction and agriculture to introduce the use of ethanol in their energy mixes to further reduce fossil fuel import demand. He suggested transitioning diesel-based vehicles to gasoline-based ones so that they can use ethanol. India’s domestic biodiesel production remains only a small fraction of ethanol production. Earlier this week, the prime minister announced the country had achieved 10% ethanol blending nationally ahead of the October 1 deadline.
