Rice-based mattifying ingredient offers natural alternative for skincare formulations

July 18, 2022 |

In Germany, BASF has launched a new skincare biopolymer made from rice. Dubbed Verdessence RiceTouch, the powder is made from non-GMO rice produced in the European Union. It absorbs oils to provide a mattifying effect to cosmetics with a “smooth and powdery light skin feel.”

Stickiness reduction and spreading enhancement are additional benefits, BASF tells Premium Beauty News. “Sensory is an important attribute for consumers when it comes to the selection of cosmetic products. With Verdessence RiceTouch, we use one of nature’s offerings of bio-sourced alternatives to synthetic sensory modifiers,” adds Dr. Natalia Chudinova, Marketing Manager for Market Development Face/Skin Care at BASF.

Verdessence RiceTouch does not contain any preservatives and is produced without chemical modifications.
