Argentine government extends 12.5% biodiesel blend rate

August 25, 2022 |

In Argentina, state news agency Telam reported that the national government will extend the 12.5% biodiesel blend rate as part of its efforts to alleviate the impact of high costs of imported diesel, the country’s energy minister Flavia Royon said on Twitter

“We are convinced that we must invest in biofuels, which allow us to save foreign currency. That is why we have decided, together with the Minister of Economy Sergio Massa and the Secretary of Agriculture, to extend the 12.5% biodiesel cut-off,” Royon said.

In June, the government had decided to permanently increase the cut of biodiesel with diesel from 5% to 7.5%. In addition, the national government decided to increase the cut by an extra 5% during a two-month period.

After the expiration on August 16 of the decree that had imposed the additional temporary 5% biodiesel blend, the Argentine Chamber of Biofuels (Carbio) had recently requested the permanent continuation of the measure.
