DOST explores use of waste as energy source in the Philippines

September 8, 2022 |

In the Philippines, ABS-CBN News reported that the country’s Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is exploring the use of waste to generate energy.

Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. reportedly said that a pilot facility is set up in Los Baños, Laguna.  DOST is also studying the right temperature for waste combustion to prevent emission of air pollutants, the official said.

“When you talk about waste to energy, you need to have ample supply of waste to burn or to incinerate (…) This needs to have a very good waste management system at the local level,” Solidum had told the House Committee on Appropriations deliberating on DOST’s proposed 2023 budget.
