Haryana government finalizing new biomass policy

In India, the Hindustan Times newspaper reports the Haryana government is planning a new biomass policy that will on one hand significantly reduce paddy straw burning while on the other hand promote private sector investment in biomass-based power to cut the state’s reliance on fossil fuels. The draft policy was debated earlier this week before eventually being made public and includes promotion of compressed biogas as well as waste-to-energy, packaging and other bio-based products in the state.
