Rolls-Royce urges aviation sector to accelerate the use of biofuels

October 6, 2022 |

In the UK, Reuters reported that the head of Rolls-Royce said that the aviation sector needed to accelerate the use of biofuels before new technologies like hydrogen and electric-powered aircraft become viable to limit emissions.

“Ultimately, one day I’m pretty confident that you’ll be able to fly from here to San Francisco on an aircraft with something like a gas turbine burning hydrogen, but there’s no way that we’re going to be doing that in the next 15 years,” Warren East said during the Reuters IMPACT conference in London.

The executive said that governments will play a key role in the adoption of biofuels in the aviation industry chiefly in SAF mandates.

East also said that the aviation sector has to accelerate the implementation of technology in order to become net zero by 2050.
