Porsche launches eFuels production in Chile

December 21, 2022 |

In Chile, Porsche and its international partners, working in collaboration with the Chilean company Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF), have started the industrial production of synthetic fuels (eFuels). Members of the Board of Management of Porsche AG carried out the refueling ceremony for a Porsche 911 with the first liters of synthetic fuel produced at the facility. eFuels made from water and carbon dioxide with the help of wind power enable virtually CO 2 -neutral operation of gasoline engines.

In the pilot phase, the production of about 130,000 liters of eFuels per year is planned. Initially, the fuel will be used in small-scale but very significant projects, including Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup races and refueling cars at Porsche Experience Centers. After the pilot phase, the first expansion in Chile will take the project to the 55 million liters per year expected by the middle of the decade. Some two years later, the capacity is expected to be 550 million liters.
