Honeywell says India could initially mandate 1% ethanol blending with jet fuel as part of roadmap for SAF adoption

In India, The Economic Times reported that Deepak Bisht, Director of the Honeywell India Technology Center, considered that the Indian government could mandate 1% blending of ethanol with jet fuel as the first step in its effort to create a broad ecosystem on the use of sustainable aviation fuel for the domestic aviation industry. According to the report, relevant government ministries and a policy think tank are currently exploring the various technologies which will be best suitable for making SAF in the country, with ethanol being the primary fuel choice. “There have been discussions with the petroleum and natural gas (ministry), discussions with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and there are multiple rounds of discussion which are going on,” said Deepak Bisht. “Eventually, India will follow the norm and come up with some kind of a mandate in terms of warming up, maybe 1%, that’s what I am hearing, into SAF,” Bisht added.
