PETA calls on Pharrell Williams to use Louis Vuitton appointment for good

February 27, 2023 |

In New York, PETA has asked Pharrell Williams to use his new appointment as Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director to encourage the luxury brand to ban animal fur and transition to biobased alternatives.

In a letter to the “Happy” hitmaker, PETA Celebrity Outreach Principal Jessica Shotorbani notes that Louis Vuitton is one of the last brands still using fur and exotic skins and details the horrific conditions the animals live and die in.

“As you’re someone who champions animal activism, we’re sure that this cruelty doesn’t align with your values,” she adds. “Today, innovative, animal- and planet-friendly materials, including bio-based faux fur and embossed fruit and mycelium leathers, are readily available—and Louis Vuitton is already using them! There’s no need for any animal to suffer for fashion. Will you please confirm that there will be no fur or exotic skins in new Louis Vuitton collections?”
