Indonesia continues with B35 despite slower-than-expected rollout

March 30, 2023 |

In Indonesia, Bloomberg reports that despite a slow start, the government is still committed to blending 35% biodiesel this year, after raising it from 30% in February. Demand for biodiesel has been weak despite the higher mandate, however, with consumption during the first quarter of the year only reaching 2.1 billion liters compared to the 2.5 billion liters consumed during Q1 2022, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry data shows. The government is giving retailers flexibility to increases their blending to 35% until mid-year, which is expected to reduce demand from the expected 13.15 billion liters of B35 estimated for 2023.
