In Spain, RTVC reported that the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, met with the executive president of Spanish airline Iberia, Javier Sánchez, and the president of Iberia Express, Carlos Gómez, to discuss potential investments in the SAF market. Both presidents of Iberia and Iberia Express agreed with Torres on the opportunity that this commitment to sustainability represents for the Canary Islands, given that the company’s intention is to work together with producing companies and island authorities to install a SAF production plant. “The Canary Islands need maximum air and maritime connectivity with Europe , while maintaining a growing commitment to sustainability.” Torres also recalled that the Canary Islands have advanced with the exemption until 2030 of carbon emission rates between islands and with the rest of the state and, also, with subsidies to airlines that use sustainable fuels.
