Brazil extends biofuel program deadline

April 27, 2023 |

In Brazil, BNamericas reported that Brazil has extended the deadline for fuel distributors to meet their mandatory acquisition target of decarbonization credits (CBIOs) under the national biofuel program RenovaBio.

Through a decree published on April 26, the deadline for meeting the 2022 target was kept at September 30 of this year, but the deadline for meeting the 2023 target was extended from December 31 until March 31, 2024.

According to the report, RenovaBio promotes greater use of biofuels which are used to replace fossil fuels, allowing Brazil to meet its goals of reducing the carbon intensity of the fuel matrix.

The program’s goal for 2023 is to avoid emissions of 37.47Mt of carbon into the atmosphere.
