Former British soldier hopes to hit biodegradable golf ball and toast King Charles from summit of Everest

In the Himalayas, a war veteran and double amputee is scaling the world’s tallest peak, from which he hopes to toast the coronation of King Charles and tee off a biodegradable golf ball.

Hari Budha Magar, who in 2010 lost both legs to an Afghanistan IED attack, has completed acclimation and will launch a summit attempt when weather forecasts are favorable.

The adventurer told The Sun he plans to tee off from the summit and raise a glass of Gurkhas and Guns Whisky to toast King Charles and Queen Camilla. While the golf ball’s maker was not specified, there are several options on the market that use soybean- or corn-based materials.

“This mountain is not just for me, it’s for everyone with disabilities, for veterans, for The King, for Nepal and the Nepalese people, for the UK and its people,” he said. “I am doing this to raise awareness and change perceptions of people with disabilities, making history and inspiring other people to climb their own mountains.”
