BPCL in talks with Sulzer to produce SAF

June 7, 2023 |

In India, Share Price India reported that state-run oil firm Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) is in talks with Switzerland-based Sulzer Chemtech for a partnership in the sustainable aviation fuel space.

BPCL has been working on developing jet fuel from used cooking oil, according to the report.

In a recent presentation, BPCL said it “is committed to reduce carbon emission by manufacturing bio-ATF as per CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation).” It added that the company has developed the catalyst and the process to develop sustainable aviation fuel through the UCO-to-ATF mode.

In November, Sulzer had inked a deal with Malaysian energy company Vandelay Ventures Sdn Bhd to build a production facility for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. Under the agreement, Sulzer Chemtech, in cooperation with Duke Technologies LLC, will provide its BioFlux licenced technology, basic engineering packages (BEP) and technical services.
