Virgin Australia, Boeing ink sustainable aviation fuel partnership

July 5, 2023 |

In Australia, The Sidney Morning Herald reported that Virgin Australia and The Boeing Group have joined forces to advocate for the development of a local sustainable aviation fuel industry in Australia.

Virgin and Boeing signed a memorandum of understanding which they say will result in both companies leveraging their positions in Australia to influence government policy on SAF.

The partnership was announced as Virgin received its first of 33 Boeing 737 Max-8s in Seattle last week, 12 years after it submitted the order. The Max-8 is expected to reduce Virgin’s emissions by 15% per flight when compared to the previous iteration, the 737-80 NG, according to the report.
