In Brazil, Reuters reports that data from Citi Research shows that a draft bill about to be sent to Congress seeking to boost ethanol blending in gasoline to 30% from the current 27% would divert 3.5% of the country’s current sugar production to produce ethanol. The increased demand would require 1.2 billion additional liters of ethanol in 2024/25. Additional ethanol production from corn was not contemplated in the Reuters report of the research analysis from Citi.
