White House divided on inclusion of ethanol pathway for SAF under IRA subsidies

In Washington, Reuters reports that a divide has arisen within the White House regarding potential subsidies for sustainable aviation fuel based that uses corn ethanol as feedstock. One side says SAF is a necessary pathway for ethanol’s future viability while the other says that the use of corn ethanol is contradictory to the needed environmental benefits of SAF. The White House appears to favor ethanol’s inclusion in the program under last year’s Inflation Reduction Act but wants to make sure that models calculating GHG emissions are appropriate.
