Clariant evaluating strategic options for Romanian sunliquid plant

In Romania, Clariant is evaluating strategic options for its bioethanol production operations, which are carried out exclusively in Romania, at the Podari plant. The manufacturer will provide an update to this process by the end of 2023.

In December 2022, Clariant announced a financial impairment of its sunliquid plant in Podari, Romania, of approximately 225 million Swiss francs ($257.8 million/€233.9 million). The reason was that the facility, which became operational in the second quarter of 2022, did not achieve targeted yields and other operational parameters. The Swiss company said in its latest statement that it suffered a negative operating impact of 10 million Swiss francs from sunliquid in the second quarter of 2023. However, Clariant continued its efforts to “address the mechanical challenges , biochemical and operational involved in accelerating this unique technology in the world.
