Indian sugar mills want 5% GST for flex-fuel vehicles on par with EVs

August 29, 2023 |

In India, the Business Standard newspaper reports that the Indian Sugar Mills Association has asked the government to drop the Goods and Services Tax on flex fuel vehicles to 5% from the current 28% to encourage people to drive on higher ethanol blends. Electric vehicles already have the lower GST applied to their sales price. ISMA presented the proposal to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Monday in hopes that ethanol fueled vehicles can benefit from the same tax parity as EVs.
