Numaligarh Refinery plans to start bamboo ethanol production in Assam

October 10, 2023 |

In India, Reuters reports Numaligarh Refinery plans to start producing ethanol from bamboo at its Assam refinery in March. The technology developed by Chempolis will produce 50,000 metric tons of ethanol annually as well as 16,000 tons of furfural, the surplus of which will eventually be exported to the European Union, and 11000 tons acetic acid. NRL says that it is already exploring similar sized plants in Mizoram and Meghalya, taking advantage of the region’s depressed bamboo economy now that paper mills have shut down.
