Minnesota legislative working group split on how to tackle low carbon fuel standard

February 5, 2024 |

In Minnesota, Reuters reports the state legislature’s Clean Transportation Standard (CTS) Work Group has a released a report saying that in order to achieve 100% carbon intensity reduction by 2050 would require aggressive policy measures, while a business as usual scenario would only achieve a 30% reduction by that time. The report instead suggested lower interim targets than outlined in the transportation omnibus bill passed by the legislature this past spring. On the other hand, a minority report was published by a few members of the working group calling out the group’s assumption that ethanol would provide environmental benefits, which the minority said it does not.
