ExxonMobil exploring biofuel production at Baton Rouge refinery

In Louisiana, The Advocate newspaper reports ExxonMobil is exploring the use of used cooking oil and other plant oils to produce biofuels at its refinery in Baton Rouge. The company says its expertise in, and use of proprietary catalysts allows to it process a wide range of molecules as potential feedstock. Such an investment would require regulatory stability, however, which has become challenging as local authorities exercise their muscle in statewide industrial tax exception programs.
