Lake Charles Methanol announces plans for $3.2 billion renewable methanol plant

February 18, 2024 |

In Louisiana, 7KPLC reported that Lake Charles Methanol announced plans for a new $3.2 billion manufacturing plant at the Port of Lake Charles that would turn natural gas and renewable gas feedstocks into blue methanol.

According to the report, the facility would reform natural gas and renewal gas feedstocks into hydrogen, while capturing carbon dioxide, which would then be used to produce millions of tons per year of methanol.

Lake Charles Methanol is currently conducting an engineering study and obtaining regulatory permits. The company expects to make a final investment decision by the middle of the year, with construction to start shortly afterward. It will take over three years to build and commission the plant, with commercial operations starting in late 2027, the report added.
