The Digest’s 2024 Multi-Slide Guide to an Efficient, Cost-Effective Anaerobic Digester

March 9, 2024 |

A high production cost of renewable natural gas results from slow disintegration and hydrolysis of recalcitrant feedstocks in conventional AD leads to low productivity; low methane content of biogas produced from AD requires downstream purification; and waste rich in protein that results in high ammonia concentration that inhibits the process. A team of researchers led by Shulin Chen of Washington State University proposed a novel and cost-effective anaerobic digestion system by pretreating recalcitrant feedstock and intensifying core processes. Dr. Chen presented these slides at DOE Project Peer Review on the project’s promise and progress.
