Backed by A-listers, waste-based packaging firm Cruz Foam boasts scale and eyes new products

March 25, 2024 |

In Santa Cruz, California, a food waste upcycler backed by A-list investors such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashton Kutcher, is already mitigating 17,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Made from 70% food waste, Cruz Foam’s product is formulated for cold chain logistics.  By working with Atlantic Packaging, one of the largest private packaging companies in the US, Cruz Foam material already provides sustainable packaging materials for food companies like Verve Coffee and Real Good Fish.

According to Fast Company, Cruz Foam’s packaging biodegrades 3,000 times faster than polystyrene and what’s left over is usable as a fertilizer of biogas.

Cruz Foam is planning additional products, such as mailers to replace conventional plastic bubble wrap and biobased foam blocks for packing electronics and appliances.
