PTT exploring $84.7M green methanol facility

April 1, 2024 |

In Thailand, the Bangkok Post reports PTT may invest $84.7 million in a green methanol facility. ThyssenKrupp Uhde conducted the front-end feasibility study for the proposed 100,00 metric tons per year of green methanol from captured carbon dioxide but it could scale up to 2 million tons per year, nearly triple the 700,000 tons of methanol Thailand imports annually. Although the company is keen to go for the technology that would be powered by renewable energy, it says that since it’s more expensive than producing methanol from natural gas, an investment incentive package would be required.
