Stockholm Exergi gets environmental permits to build one of Europe’s largest BECCS facilities

April 8, 2024 |

In Sweden, Stockholm Exergi recently received permission to build one of Europe’s first large-scale facilities for capturing carbon dioxide through bio-CCS (Bio-energy with Carbon Capture and Storage) in Värtahamnen, Stockholm following approval for the environmental permits from the Land and Environmental Court.

In March 2023, Stockholm Exergi submitted its application to the Land and Environmental Court to be allowed to build a large-scale facility for the capture of biogenic carbon dioxide.

The permit includes constructing and operating facilities for the separation of carbon dioxide from flue gases from a biofuel-fired power plant as well as compressing, liquefying and temporarily storing the separated carbon dioxide.
