Firefly to install SAF facility in Essex

April 16, 2024 |

In the UK, BBC reported that biofuel company Firefly plans to develop a plant to transform human waste into SAF in Harwich, Essex. The report noted that the firm aims to start delivering SAF from this facility by 2028. It has reached an agreement with Wizz Air to provide up to 525,000 tons of SAF over 15 years, according to the report. “We’re turning sewage into jet fuel. I can’t really think of many things that are cooler than that,” Firefly CEO James Hygate said. Utility company Anglian Water has committed to providing the biosolids – a product of its waste water treatment process – to Firefly as part of an initial pilot phase.
