Pertamina goes all in for biodiesel but economics not in its favor

In Indonesia, Japan’s Nikkei newspaper reports Pertamina has gotten itself in a tight spot by following the government’s lead on palm oil biodiesel only to be left with low oil prices due to the global pandemic and high palm oil prices due to lower supplies. The company expects to lower its hydrocarbon emissions by up to 50% as a result of the palm oil transition, but palm oil continues to be plagued by questions about its sustainability and deforestation.
