Philippines ethanol plant shut down for fishkill

In the Philippines, after having being fined for pollution that has led to fishkill in nearby watersheds, the Universal Robina Corp ethanol distillery in Negros Oriental has been forcibly closed until the required upgrades to eliminate negative environmental impacts have been implemented. The area where the plant is located is home to extensive whale and dolphin watching in the protected marine area while more tan 200 fishing families have been economically displaced.
