Corn ethanol on the rise in Brazil

In Brazil, Bloomberg reports that more than 30 corn-based ethanol plants are under development that will create a major shift in the country’s predominantly sugarcane-based ethanol industry. Estimates show that 1 billion liters of corn-based ethanol will be produced this year but with 31 billion liters of demand and the sugarcane industry weakened by low global sugar prices, old sugarcane, poor financial health and inconsistent fuels policy, there is opportunity for corn-based fuels to grow market share quickly.
