Higher soy oil prices rekindle food vs fuel debate in Argentina

In Argentina, soy oil prices on the Chicago markets have jumped 30% since early March, which has led to a return of the food vs fuel debate locally. The fact that less than 20% of the oilseed is actually oil, the local industry argues that if demand for biodiesel increases and farmers respond with more soy production then there is a significant increase in meal for both animal and human consumption. So rather than reducing food supplies, they are significantly increased.
