Glacial Lakes Energy suffering logistics woes due to continued rail backlog

In South Dakota, Glacial Lakes Energy lost at least 1 million gallons of ethanol production due to rail delays in the area that forced its facility in Mina to shut down during four days in July. With 40 trucks per day required to ship out the facility’s ethanol production, it’s not a viable option, and so remains reliant on the railroad. But cars come back 60 days after going out, rather than 30 days, the company has had to lease up to 25% more cars to get the ethanol out, car rentals are at an all time high, and the situation is set to only get worse with the onset of the fall harvest.
