Iowa State gets $1 million from USDA to develop bio-based adhesives

November 26, 2014 |

In Iowa, the US agriculture secretary told the Ames Tribune that the USDA will provide Iowa State University with a $1 million grant to develop bio-based paint, coating and adhesive products based on acrylated glycerol. The grant is part of an overall $4 million research grant package for biofuels and biomaterials. The third and final year of the grant will see the researchers begin production at a pilot plant currently under construction at the ISU BioCentury Research Farm. The pilot plant will be able to produce up to a ton of adhesives per day. The secretary also said 220 producers across the country would benefit from $5.6 million from the Advanced Biofuel Payment Program.
