Maine governor worried about health impacts of ethanol due to outside influence

July 13, 2016 |

In Maine, the state’s governor who has sought to investigate health impacts from ethanol-blended gasoline and mandate the use of 5% or lower ethanol blends in the state fleet when economically viable is thought to be influenced by a retired mechanic who blames ethanol blends for increasing opioid use in the state. The mechanic also blames ethanol for increased depression, anger, asthma, allergies and can exacerbate PTSD in veterans. He was a main proponent of banning MTBE in gasoline in the 1990s.
