European Parliament’s ENVI committee votes to scrap crop-based biofuels and limit biofuels to 7%

October 24, 2017 |

In Belgium, the European Parliament’s ENVI committee voted 32 votes in favor, 29 against and 4 abstentions for a proposal that would seek to completely phase out crop-based biofuels by 2030 along with a higher, limit biofuels use to 7% of transport fuel and introduce binding renewables targets of 35% but without specific targets for transport. The report also seeks to eliminate palm oil use in biofuel by 2021. The Climate Action Network criticized the proposal saying it didn’t put in sufficient safeguards for bioenergy use.
