The Competitive Edge: Spectrolytic

Q: What was the reason for founding your organization – what was the open niche you saw that could be addressed with a new product or service? What was the problem, or gap, or opportunity?

The reason for founding the organisation was a need to bring analysis of samples (fluids) out of the lab into the field. This is, the founder saw a need to provide faster and lab-accurate analysis results in the renewables sector and other sectors as well. Spectrolytic’s mid-infrared sensors therefore provide more effective and efficient results and more efficient and effective maintenance of machinery at line or in line.

Q: Tell us about your organization. What do you do?

At Spectrolytic we do sensors that derive analytical data from sample measurements enabling operational decision making in real time for customers. This eliminates delays caused by lab analysis. Our products can be divided by application and by type of monitoring. In the first case our sensors deal with oil, fuel, food, medical applications. In the second case, our sensors can be inline stand-alone or inline as part of the field kit and at-line spectrometers. Some examples of Spectrolytic’s products are for example portable spectrometer for measuring FAME content in biodiesel or in-line spectrometer for measuring oil/lube condition for various machinery (e.g. in wind turbines).

Q: What stage of development are you?  Choose one:

Commercial stage – have mature products or services on the market.

Q: What do your technologies, products or services do and accomplish – how does it (they) work, who is it (they) aimed for?

The products are aimed for product managers and operational staff that deals with controlling and maintaining various machinery (oil application), also for ministries, who do regular checks of concentrations of various parameters in fuels (e.g. FAME), for individuals with various medical conditions (for preventing copd hospitalizations) and such.

Q: Competitively, what gives your technology, product or service set an edge in cost or performance, sustainability, or any other aspect, that makes it stand out from the crowd, In short, what makes it transformative?

What makes our products stand from the crowd is the sustainability aspect of some of them – contribution to the green economy with making biodiesel compatible with countries’ regulations. Moreover, enabling a more efficient and effective maintenance of wind turbines with making sure the lubricant is of required condition (this prevents breakages, lowers downtime and much more). Also the medical aspect – prevention of hospitalizations of people with copd condition and much more. What all the mentioned have in common is that they bring the analysis out of the lab and into the field, real-time and even cloud compatible.

Q: What are the 3 top milestones you have accomplished in the past 3 years?

Spectrolytic accomplished the perfection of the following capabilities:

  1. CAPEX – Balance of plant – Manufacture/Supply services: Offshore equipment services
  2. OPEX – Operations & Maintenance: Turbine Maintenance & Spare parts
  3. OPEX – Operations & Maintenance: Testing and Certifications

Q: What are the 3 top milestones you will accomplish in the next 3 years?

  1. Keep developing the existing software and hardware to make it even more easy to use for our customers.
  2. Keep developing the existing software and hardware to make it bring even more accurate results.
  3. Make all of our products cloud compatible.
