California LCFS credits for SAF drop in value on higher CI levels

November 11, 2020 |

In California, Platts reports that SAF has lost some of its sparkle when it comes to garnering Low Carbon Fuel Standard credits, valued at just $1.0516/gal on Nov. 5 compared to nearly $1.425/gal previously. The fall in value is a result of a sharp increase in the carbon intensity of the fuels produced during Q2, which Platts calculated at 47.02 compared to 31.4 in Q1. The earlier CI was based on provisional production pathways which have now become official following submission of additional paperwork after production ramped up.
