Porche developing synthetic fuels to ensure classic cars always have fuel

November 11, 2020 |

In Germany, Hagerty reports Porche is developing synthetic fuels in order to ensure that there will be fuel around for classic cars for many years to come. The company’s CEO says that 70% of the vehicles it has built over the years are still on the road, so the issue of fuels for classic vehicles, classic now and classic in 20 years, is a major concern as the industry gets more serious about a shift to electric. Porche’s R&D teams are working on producing methanol from hydrogen that is itself produced from carbon captured from the air and powered by wind and solar.
