Metro Transit favoring biodiesel buses over electric for Twin Cities routes

In Minnesota, the Star Tribune newspaper reports that Metro Transit serving the Twin Cities will vote next week on a proposal to buy 143 biodiesel-fueled buses valued at around $122 million. Two years ago, Metro Transit promised to transition its entire fleet to electric buses, but its general manager says that biodiesel buses are more appropriate for certain routes where electric charging infrastructure isn’t optimal. As biodiesel buses have longer range, it makes sense to skip electric buses in this case, he said.
