Q: What was the reason for founding your organization – what was the open niche you saw that could be addressed with a new product or service? What was the problem, or gap, or opportunity?

Originally Petron was formed 30 years ago to be a complete Solution Provider for its clients in the fields of ethanol to ethylene, ethylene oxide and ethylene glycols. Petron’s ethanol to ethylene process provided a solution to those remote clients who required ethylene, but where not located near a conventional supply source. Shortly thereafter and before sustainability trend began globally, Petron recognized the need for renewable products and shifted its focuses to developing and providing technology to produce renewables.

Today Petron supplies commercially proven process technologies for the production of renewable ethylene, ethylene oxide and ethylene glycols and technology for the production of cellulosic ethanol. Together with our partners, Petron offers a wide range of technologies for renewable chemicals.

Cost effective production of renewable ethylene, ethylene oxide and ethylene glycols provide the foundation to produce a wide range of renewable derivatives and polymers.

Petron Scientech is a leader in the industrial conversion of Ethanol into a variety of important chemical feed-stocks, specifically, Ethylene, Ethylene Oxide, and the Ethylene Glycols. Petron is in the forefront of the renewable green chemical industry. Petron has acquired from DuPont and now licenses celluloisc ethanol technology. Through its extensive network of partner’s Petron bring a range of other renewable chemicals, polymers, and fuels technologies to its clients.

Petron offers a broad range of technologies and the full range of services in the market, including technology licenses, catalysts, basic engineering design and FEED packages, EPC & PMC management, and consulting services.

Commercial stage – have mature products or services on the market.

Q: What do your technologies, products or services do and accomplish – how does it (they) work, who is it (they) aimed for?

Petron’s technologies are cost competitive and commercially proven. The products they produce are of equal of better quality than there conventional analogs and are thus easily interchangeable.

Petron’s core technology ethanol to ethylene technology has been in commercial operation for nearly thirty years, while offering the lowest cost, long catalyst life without regeneration, and superiors yields.

Petron’s commercially proven ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol technologies have been in commercial operation for nearly as long, using both conventional and renewable ethylene as feedstocks. These technologies offer the lowest operating and investment costs due to Petron’s proprietary By-Pass process design.

Q: Competitively, what gives your technology, product or service set an edge in cost or performance, sustainability, or any other aspect, that makes it stand out from the crowd, In short, what makes it transformative?

With a process design philosophy that focuses on efficiency, Petron’s process design team is always seeking opportunities to reduce the energy requirements and GHG emissions from our processes, while maintaining their cost advantages. A high degree of heat integration is the corner stone of all of Petron’s technologies, reducing energy consumption and reducing GHG emissions, while reducing the operating costs.

As one example, Petron’s proprietary commercially proven ethanol to ethylene technology has been demonstrated to be:

  • Ethanol Conversion: ~100%
  • Ethylene Selectivity: >99%
  • By-Products Formation: minimal
  • Catalyst Life: >3 years minimum

Q: What are the 3 top milestones you have accomplished in the past 3 years?

1) Licensing of its ethanol to ethylene, ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol technologies for to a client in Turkey.

2) Acquired from DuPont its complete technology for the production of celluloisc ethanol.

3) Started up ethanol to ethylene demonstration unit as part of an ATJ renewable jet unit.

Q: What are the 3 top milestones you will accomplish in the next 3 years?

1) Through Petron’s Biochem USA affiliate, and working with partners and clients, develop fully integrated biorefinery projects to produce renewable sustainable chemicals, polymers and fuels, that reduce GHG emissions.

2) License and start-up commercial installations of Petron’s cellulosic ethanol technology. Putting this proven technology to commercial operation will result in the production of ethanol with a CI among the lowest available.

3) Working with our global partners/clients bring renewable polyethylene projects to commercialization. These projects will produce green polyethylene that is produced from a renewable feedstock, sustainable, completely recyclable and cost competitive.
