Brazilian ethanol production down 22% on year during H2 April

May 17, 2021 |

In Brazil, Reuters reports UNICA data shows that sugarcane production has fallen by a quarter during H2 April due to yields falling 10% on the year, further tightening the already limited available of both sugar and ethanol. With mills focusing on sugar production over ethanol due to high world prices, ethanol production fell by 22% to just over 2 billion liters during the second half of April. Even though sugar prices are high at the moment, hydrous ethanol prices are still high as well while anhydrous is high enough that fuel retailers want the blending level dropped.
