Food delivery giant invests in cell-based fish

In Germany, the venture capital arm of Delivery Hero has made an unspecified investment in lab-grown fish firm Bluu Biosciences.

Delivery Hero is based in Berlin and has operations in many markets. It is also the owner of FoodPanda, a popular food delivery platform in Asia that earlier this year nabbed the title for the world’s first cultured meat food delivery. Delivery Hero founded DX Ventures in January with about €50 million (US$60.7 million) in funds.

“We decided to partner with Bluu Biosciences after being impressed with the deep expertise of their world-class team and their clear focus on tackling the many challenges associated with the current fishing industry,” says DX Ventures partner Brendon Blacker.  “We also see tremendous potential to leverage our food industry expertise to assist Bluu Biosciences with marketing its cell-based fish products to restaurants and commercial kitchens worldwide.”

Bluu Biosciences says it will use the funds to get to market faster and expand distribution when it launches its first products.
