EU corn crush margins fall to lowest in eight years

In the Netherlands, Platts reports the crush margin for corn-based ethanol in Europe has fallen to the lowest level in eight years at negative EUR153 per cubic meter. Higher corn prices in major exporting countries due to adverse weather is the main driver for the ever-worsening return for EU corn ethanol producers. The frosts in Brazil that have hit agricultural commodities across the board are also supporting corn prices as farmers there can’t yet plant.
