In the Dominican Republic, Maryland-based Ridge Partners will set up biodiesel production from solid waste in Jicomé, on the Northwest Line of the country, to produce and export the fuel to the United Kingdom. Exports will be made from Puerto Plata. The company will buy solid waste from all neighboring communities to process the biodiesel for export. Local laws don’t allow the fuel to be used domestically. The company has promised to pay a portion of revenues for local development projects.
