Dubai Municipality completes 85% of its waste-to-energy project

September 15, 2022 |

In Dubai, Zawya reported that the Dubai Municipality announced that 85% of the emirate’s Waste Management Center (DWMC), a waste-to-energy project, has been completed.

The project will contribute to Dubai Municipality’s strategic objective of reducing and completely diverting waste from landfills by 2030. The project, which is located in Dubai’s Al Warsan area, has the main goal of converging 45% of the emirate’s municipal waste into renewable energy once fully complete. The first phase of this energy project is expected to be ready by 2023, while the entire project is scheduled to be fully completed by 2024.

Once fully operational, the plant’s renewable energy, generated from treating waste, will feed the local electricity grid with 215MWh of clean energy. The center will start its initial operations at 40% by early 2023 and expects to process 2,000 tons of solid waste to produce 80MWh of renewable energy at this stage.
