Mowilex unveils Indonesia’s first bio-based paint

January 19, 2023 |

In Indonesia, Mowilex said that its new Naturalle paint features a bio-based formula that contains 28% renewable raw materials and removes formaldehyde from indoor air. The firm noted that producing Naturalle with plant elements reduces its overall carbon footprint while creating a durable matte paint that is low in odor and free of organic compounds (VOCs). Mowilex claimed to be the first manufacturer in Indonesia to formulate a sustainable, bio-based paint. The water-based acrylic binder is made of 28% natural ingredients sourced from existing seeds, stalks and grasses, the company said. Mowilex said it is applying to certify Naturalle through the USDA’s BioPreferred Program. “Our Naturalle paint derives a significant portion of its resins from sustainable, plant-based materials. Using these renewable elements, rather than petroleum-sourced raw materials, lowers the product’s carbon footprint. This paint also improves indoor air quality by removing formaldehyde from indoor air, offering a sustainable solution to a common challenge,” said Novina Tjahjadi, Mowilex Head of Research and Development.
