RWE acquires land for green hydrogen plant in the UK

March 24, 2024 |

In the UK, RWE said that plans are progressing for a new green hydrogen plant at Teesside, in the UK, following the acquisition of suitable development site in the area.

RWE said the secured development land is in the Teesside Industrial area at Wilton International, which forms part of the wider East Coast Cluster of proposed carbon capture and hydrogen projects.

The company said it is developing options for a large-scale green hydrogen production plant at the site, with electrolysers with an initial capacity of 260Mwe and the ability to produce up to five tons of green hydrogen per hour.

“This is a really significant step towards RWE’s ambitions for the production of green hydrogen in Teesside,” said Tom Glover, RWE UK’s country chair.

He added that RWE has already completed feasibility and initial environmental studies on the project with an aim to being fully operational by 2028. He also confirmed “detailed discussions” with potential industrial customers have begun.
