Minnesota town approaches vote on Avant Energy project

March 12, 2012 |

In Minnesota, Avant Energy’s controversial planned $30 million biofuel plant in Le Sueur could soon be voted on by the community as early as this spring if the City Council decides to go ahead with a referendum. The city has received hundreds of signatures from local residents opposing the methane plant that would use convert chicken manure, potato-processing residues and corn silage as feedstock and provide up to 40% of the city’s electricity demand.
