California rail project awarded $20M DOT grant as it works towards including RD

September 15, 2020 |

In California, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), in conjunction with the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission (SJRRC), a $20 million Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant to help construct the Stockton Diamond Grade Separation project – the only rail project in the United States to be selected for BUILD grant funding for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 cycle.

Mass Transit Magazine reports the project is a key link in the SJRRC’s expansion plans that convert trains and connecting bus services to run on renewable diesel in an effort to improve local air quality.
